“most of the work which was done was due to the activities of working men and women, most of whom did not appear as orators or as writers in printed papers”. GEORGE CORES. 1947. ‘Personal recollections of the anarchist past’ KSL 1992.
Tyneside Anarchist Archive exists to preserve and showcase our collection of literature preserved over the last 40-50 years by anarchists on Tyneside. All too often our history is ignored and disregarded by academic middle class historians only interested in self righteous self promotion. We hope to remedy this. We believe the badly photocopied anti war leaflet produced by Newcastle Anarchist Group in 1983 is just as important, if not more so, than a copy of ‘Chomsky on Anarchism’. We are not intellectuals and have no aspirations to be so., we only seek to share our propaganda from the streets of Tyneside to our friends in countries worldwide…
Our collection has already helped various local writers in the past with everything from pamphlets to dissertations on anarchism. How can we help you ? if you are local and wish to access the archive for any particular study or proposed writing, we will probably know you..get in touch. If you are outside the North East.. email your request / requirements and we will see what we can help with.
We are always on the look out for ( especially local ) literature to encompass within the collection.. We are particularly keen to discover any anarchist literature produced during the 1960,s and 1970,s, and of course any earlier.
Please contact us if you would like to donate / contribute or help in anyway.
